The updated 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display and 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display are now available in SA, with pricing starting at R29 999.

The Core Group, Apple's official local distributor, said yesterday the two new devices are now available from the iStore and Digicape, while other "selected" retailers would be added to the list "soon". Internationally, both models sell for around $1 999, which translates to R24 418.

The 15-inch MacBook Pro offers more than five million pixels through its display technology and a 2 880 by 1 800 resolution. The 27?inch iMac with Retina 5K display has four times as many pixels as the standard 27?inch iMac display. A Retina display reduces glare while maintaining colour and quality.

Apple's latest MacBook, the trimmer 12-inch that stole the show at its Spring Forward event in March, landed in SA last month for in-store previews. The previews are available at premium resellers, which includes the iStore and Digicape as well as "selected" Incredible Connection stores soon afterwards. Stock availability dates are still to be announced.

Recommended pricing for the new, lighter Mac varies between R18 999 for the entry-level version, and R23 999 for the top-end model. Both come in either 'space grey', silver or gold options.

Meanwhile, Apple has also since updated its 15-inch MacBook and 27-inch iMac.

The updated 15-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display features the new Force Touch trackpad, longer battery life and faster discrete graphics. It also has up to 2.5 times faster flash storage than the previous generation, with up to nine hours of wireless Web browsing and up to nine hours of iTunes movie playback.

The 27-inch iMac with Retina 5K display features a 14.7 million pixel display, 3.3GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 processor with turbo boost speeds up to 3.7GHz and AMD Radeon R9 M290 graphics. The new iMac also includes 8GB of memory and 1TB of storage, as well as four USB 3.0 ports, while two Thunderbolt 2 ports each deliver up to 20Gbps of bandwidth for external devices.

Every new Mac comes with OS X Yosemite and continuity features to make working across Mac and iOS fluid. Other apps such as Photos, iMovie, GarageBand, and iWork come free with all the devices.
