Powell Tronics was the recipient of the prestigious best stand award in the 18 m^2-48m^2 category at the Securex 2015 exhibition, held at Gallagher Convention Centre from 12 to 14 May this year.

"We were delighted with this award, which recognises excellence in stand design and is indicative of branding that represents best practice in the highly competitive private security industry," says John Powell, MD of Powell Tronics.

Powell Tronics followed a similar theme to its Securex 2014 show offering, with a number of new high-technology products from its popular suppliers dominating the stand. These industry-leading products included Impro's scalable Access Portal range, Safran Morpho's 3D Face and the MorphoTablet - the answer to portable biometrics.

Other notable products on display included Golmar's latest IP intercom solution, Powell Tronics' own ATOM biometric template distribution software with entry-level T&A, and Synerion's Workforce Management (WFM) for enterprise solutions.

In addition, bespoke software such as PT-GUEST, which uses market-established handheld scanners to scan and decrypt South African drivers' licences and then integrate the data captured with the ImproNet access control system, as well as the PT-VEND cashless vending solution (using pin code, prox cards and biometrics), were on show.

The company provided live interactive demonstrations throughout the course of the exhibition and encouraged visitors to take part in the live demonstration of its solution using a fully operational visitor management solution with Scaletrix racing cars on a custom build model platform (see Clip & Pics).

Other show-stoppers were:

The Morpho 3D Face Reader provides extremely fast, hands-free access to sensitive and high-security areas. The technology is tolerant to both face angles and motion, making it ideal for uninterrupted access. The 3D Face Reader analyses the three-dimensional structure of the user's face and achieves extremely accurate matching, with high throughput. Enhanced accuracy enables a low false acceptance rate and will not allow conventional 2D images to be used to 'spoof' the system. Powell Tronics also promoted the concept of mobile access technology with its ATOM software.

There are three variants of the ATOM software - a basic entry-level biometric template distribution system for Morpho readers, known as ATOM Core; the ATOM Charged module, which has all the functionality of ATOM Core, plus a time and attendance element; and the ATOM Fusion module, which has been developed to provide integration with Impro software suites as a full T&A module.

The ATOM is ideal for use on the MorphoTablet, a touch-screen device running on Android, with a seven-inch display and cellular, WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity. The MorphoTablet has two biometric sensors, a high-definition camera and a fingerprint reader, for increased functionality.

Synerion Workforce Management (WFM) runs checks to ensure companies maximise their employees' time efficiently. For example, it will analyse the employees in a specific designated workgroup to determine which of the employees have been logging excessive overtime. It will then provide suggestions on the utilisation of other members in that workgroup to balance out the overtime hours. This not only ensures maximised worker productivity, but also provides compliance with relevant union and Department of Labour (DOL) statutory legislation and requirements.
