The data centre has been at the core of most IT leaders' efforts to optimise IT service delivery, says Lion of Africa Insurance's Robert Boccia.

With increased business demands for data residing in the data centre, the need for greater flexibility is only going to grow.

This is according to Robert Boccia, CIO of Lion of Africa Insurance, who notes the time has arrived for businesses to expand and accelerate on the journey to build the data centre of the future that can automatically drive the business forward.

The data centre has been at the heart of most IT leaders' efforts to optimise IT service delivery that can support business outcomes, says Boccia.

He believes the business of IT is an approach that covers how, in today's evolving world, it is critically important to have a maturity model-based approach to drive IT value and business alignment.

"Of critical importance are the correct building blocks that allow the IT approach to be as adaptable as possible, in order to support the current and future business goals."

Boccia says the capability maturity model should "incorporate the core infrastructure optimisation initiatives, which include the advancement of maturity in the data centre services space and core infrastructure space".

In comparison with international standards, he believes South African organisations compare favourably when it comes to recent trends in the data centre space.
