Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko vehemently denies he intended to defraud anyone, says the company.

Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko appeared in the Wynberg Magistrate Court on Friday, on charges of fraud related to allegations he has been driving around with someone else's licence plates, racking up traffic fines running into tens of thousands.

The matter was postponed to 4 September for Maseko to make the necessary representations.

Maseko handed himself over to authorities in July last year, after the rightful owner of the licence plate number he has allegedly been driving around with "gave chase" and stopped the Telkom CEO to confront him.

Telkom this morning said Maseko received a summons on 5 June to appear in court on allegations related to a motor vehicle licence plate.

"The lack of clarity related to these allegations has been a frustration in resolving the issue. Having now received full discovery of the allegations, Mr Maseko is now able to study the detail of the allegations and will respond accordingly," says Telkom spokesperson Jacqui O'Sullivan.

O'Sullivan adds Maseko vehemently denies "any intention to defraud any person or organisation" and the necessary representations will be made to progress this matter.

"Mr Maseko would like to address these claims and he now has the opportunity to do so, through the legal process."
