Twitter will now let users add birth dates to their profiles.

Micro-blogging social site, Twitter, will add a birthday feature today for all users. The feature will see a bunch of colourful balloons float across the user's profile page on their birthday.

"Every day, millions of people celebrate the important events in their lives on Twitter ? from public events like the recent US Supreme Court ruling that ignited #LoveWins, to more personal ones like a friend's birthday. We're excited to make sharing these personal celebrations even easier ? starting today, you'll be able to show your birthday on your Twitter profile," Twitter product manager Ricardo Castro wrote in a blog post.

Today is actor Kevin Hart's birthday and his profile is an example of what a profile will look like when the feature is enabled. The date appears below his bio and balloons float across his Twitter page when scrolling down his newsfeed.

Users have the option to add birthdays with the applicable year or not, and can also control its visibility to certain people.

"If you choose to add your birthday to your profile, it will be displayed to the audience you've chosen. It will also be used to customise your Twitter experience. For example, we will use your birthday to show you more relevant content, including ads," Twitter states in its Help Centre.
