Ink makes its way into enterprise

With the paperless office yet to be realized, enterprises are still leaning heavily on print for legal documents, marketing collateral and internal communications. But where once, they relied mainly on laser printers for all their paper-based communications, enterprises are now starting to adopt inkjet printers for specific functions.

Ravi Perumal, Print Category Manager at HP South Africa, says inkjet printers are increasingly making their way into enterprises and large organisations.

"This is due to a number of factors," he says. "Ink has traditionally had lower operating costs and a lower print cost per page. This made ink the choice of price sensitive SMEs, while large enterprises typically opted for laser, with associated gloss prints and higher cost per page. But as large enterprises become increasingly cost conscious, they are starting to turn to ink for printing internal documents, and using laser printers for external documents. There are different use cases calling for different technologies."

Ink has become a more compelling option thanks to HP's focus on increased ink device efficiencies, document management capabilities for inkjet printers and the fact that HP innovations have reduced the power consumption and total cost of ownership across its entire print portfolio. "Now, enterprises are able to manage ink devices in the same way as they manage their laser devices. Importantly, they are able to ensure the same levels of security across all categories of devices, with HP's Imaging and Print Security Center features."
