Digitalisation brings business much closer to the customer and increases productivity, says Johann Henning, managing director of Telkom Business.

The analogue era is behind us and digitalisation is changing the way we do business and fuelling competitiveness.

So says Johann Henning, MD of Telkom Business, who notes alongside this, organisations are engaging with their customers in new ways, presenting endless opportunities for innovation.

The world of work is driven by technology - it impacts how we select, buy, consume, and interact with products and services, says Henning.

He believes cloud computing is one of the technology levers driving the digital migration. "It places infrastructure and capabilities in a central place to enable multiple users to access information remotely using different devices. How we do business has changed because of digital technology.

"The digital era enables a new virtual workplace and provides workplace mobility. There is more innovation of products and services, and technology is bringing business closer to the customer."

According to Henning, several factors are driving digitalisation in SA and globally. "Changing technologies, customer behaviours, business models, as well as new competitors and substitutes are powering the digital migration. Businesses must redefine their markets in smart ways to remain relevant in the future."

He points out there are several key benefits of digitalisation, noting it brings business much closer to the customer, increases productivity, and ultimately improves customer service levels. "The ways in which businesses service their customers will enable them to thrive in a digital era."

Theo Bensch, Telkom Business' managing executive: Cybernest, and Tony De Sousa, managing executive: Solutions Business at Telkom, will explore how organisations are migrating to the cloud in their digital journey at the Cloud Computing Executive Forum at the Hilton Sandton on 30 July.
