Grant Thornton Johannesburg partners with Syrex

Johannesburg, 14 Jul 2015

Syrex, a specialist in the installation and support of various different network infrastructures, today announced it has completed the installation of the new network for Grant Thornton Johannesburg. The new installation included the consolidation of their multiple sites in Sandton, Johannesburg into this single new network structure at the office's new contemporary premises in the Wanderers Office Park in Illovo.

The move is the final step following Grant Thornton Johannesburg's merger with PKF Johannesburg in July 2013. The new offices, called '@Grant Thornton', will allow Grant Thornton Johannesburg's 500+ people to collaborate with ease and more efficiency, using this modern new space and the latest technology available.

"With the significant growth we have experienced over the past few years, and most notably our 24% increase in revenues achieved during 2014, our network infrastructure had become untenable and inadequate to meet our future demands and growing IT needs," commented Andrew Hannington, CEO of Grant Thornton Johannesburg. "We needed a partner that was able to assist us with the initial planning and configuration of a new network that would satisfy our requirements going forward and incorporate the best that technology could offer economically, as well as assist in the consolidation of our various sites.

"Our comprehensive requirements included the implementation of a business SLA fibre solution for all our connectivity, which in turn necessitated the creation of a full firewall and security architecture," continued Hannington. "Syrex were also involved in the scoping and the planning of our core network, which included some core switching architecture as well as our Microsoft Active Directory environment. The Syrex team not only undertook this complex challenge in a professional manner, but completed it to our full satisfaction ahead of the agreed time schedule. This truly was a project well executed and one that was seamless to our users from a transition perspective; we look forward to continuing to work with them going forward."

Hannington also added that Grant Thornton Johannesburg's new state-of-the-art systems would ensure the firm was able to continue attracting and retaining the best employees as a recognised Employer of Choice, while consistently meeting the needs of its clients and the ever-growing changes in technology.

"In addition, we implemented a Hyper V environment for their servers as well as a fully managed corporate wireless network that included the set-up of Ruckus to provide for segregated wireless networks for guests and their separate business units. Multiple VLANs were set up to further segregate the various business units and provide both a flexible and secure network environment," concluded Ralph Berndt, director - Sales, Client Relationship and Marketing at Syrex.

"Undoubtedly, this was one of the most challenging and scalable projects, from a management perspective, we have, as yet, undertaken, and one that also had strict timelines associated with it. Now, as a result of this success, we are involved, together with Ben Dorfling, the IT Manager, in managing the network on a 24/7 basis."
