Facebook will soon provide a security check-up, allowing users to log out of forgotten devices.

Social media giant Facebook will enhance security by allowing users to "quickly check" where they are logged in.

"Starting today [30 July], you can try a new tool called security check-up that makes it easier to find and use the security controls for your account," says Melissa Luu-Van, Facebook product manager.

"Sometime over the next few weeks, you'll see a reminder at the top of your News Feed. Click 'get started' and follow the prompts through the three steps."

Users will be able to log out of devices they have not used in a while or have forgotten about. "So you're only logged into Facebook where you want to be," says Luu-Van. Users will be able to remotely log out from these devices from within security check-up.

Users can then turn on login alerts which will let them know if a login is noticed from an unfamiliar device or browser.

Facebook also offers users tips on how to keep passwords strong and unique.

After the process is complete, users will be able to access security check-up again in the security tab of their Facebook settings page.

Security check-up is now available globally on desktop, and will come to mobile soon.

Earlier this month, Twitter also made adjustments to users' personal security by making it easier to revoke access from third-party apps, and monitor from which devices and where in the world an account is being accessed.
