The Annual General Meeting of IITPSA (Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa) was held on Tuesday 28 July 2015 at The Wanderer's Club, in Illovo, Johannesburg. As part of the AGM proceedings, Wellington Matope, Moira de Roche and Adrian Schofield were re-elected as Directors of the Institute, and Thabo Mashegoane (Eskom), the Institute's Immediate Past Gauteng Chapter Chair, was elected to the Board of Directors for the first time.

The Board of Directors of IITPSA has subsequently elected its new Office Bearers for 2015 / 2016, with Ulandi Exner (Group IT Executive at Vunani), previously a Vice-President of the institute, being elected as President. Mabongi Ngidi (Eskom) and Adrian Schofield (JCSE at Wits University) will be the Vice-Presidents for the next year. Moira de Roche (self-employed consultant) remains in the role of Honorary Treasurer for the institute.

Commenting on her appointment as the new President, Exner stated: "I am both incredibly humbled and honoured to have been elected as the new IITPSA President. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Wellington Matope for his leadership and passion that he brought to the institute during his term of office. I also want to acknowledge the phenomenal work that is being done by the IITPSA Board, Executive Council, the CEO and the IITPSA staff. Without these key role players, the IITPSA would not be where it is today and it continues to grow from strength to strength.

"The IITPSA exists to serve and represent the broader ICT community and to help grow the level of professionalism within our industry. During my tenure, I want to engage closely with our members to ensure that their voices are heard and that we deliver on their expectations."

Speaking about his re-election as a Vice-President, Adrian Schofield, who is the Manager: Applied Research at the Joburg Centre for Software Engineering (Wits University) and also a past-president of the institute, noted: "It is a privilege to be able to continue serving the institute as it develops its role to enhance the careers of practitioners in South Africa and to represent their interests in the wider forums of the International Professional Practice Partnership (IP3) and the Africa ICT Alliance (AfICTA)."

Ngidi, Senior Advisor: Business Relationships at Eskom and a newly elected IITPSA Vice-President, said "I feel honoured to be elected to this position. Such a position offers the opportunity to grow and it gives exposure to various aspects of the organisation. It is always motivating to work with the passionate and energetic professionals in IITPSA."

Moira de Roche has very ably served the institute for many years, in many different office-bearer capacities, and she is also an IITPSA past-President, and has been the Honorary Treasurer for the past two years. With her re-election to this role, De Roche noted that she looks forward "to continuing to work with the very capable IITPSA CEO and Finance Manager to provide oversight and advice on financial matters".

Members attending the AGM were also privileged to hear a thought-provoking presentation from the guest speaker, Tshifhiwa Ramuthaga (CIO of the Financial Services Board), on the subject of 'The making of the Visionary CIO of 2014', sharing her experiences of personal growth and achievement, from a humble beginning in life to the successful CIO role that she performs today, thereby giving AGM attendees some insights into why and how she won the IITPSA's prestigious Visionary CIO Award of 2014. It is clear that Ramuthaga remains strongly connected to her roots and "gives back" enormously to the less privileged communities.

Matope (outgoing IITPSA President) highlighted the institute's continued commitment to the growth and development of professionalism among ICT practitioners in South Africa.
