Minister Siyabonga Cwele says his department has paid out R15 million in executive settlements from the 2008/9 financial year to date.

Executive settlements paid out by the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS) before the contractually stipulated date of termination have amounted to R15 million.

This is according to minister Siyabonga Cwele, who responded in a written reply to Parliament, saying management settlement payouts have been made in six state-owned entities that fall under DTPS, as well as an executive payout within his department.

The SA Post Office (SAPO) and the State Information Technology Agency (SITA) topped the list as the entities with the highest settlement payouts.

The DTPS paid out R5.02 million in settlements to six SAPO executives, including R1.47 million to group CEO, Motshoanetsi Lefoka.

Meanwhile, SITA has paid out R4.73 million in executive settlements, including R1.44 million to chief executive Blake Mosley-Lefatola, and R1.9 million to COO Khumbudzo Ntshavheni.

Other state entities whose executives received settlement payouts include Sentech, Broadband Infraco, the National Electronic Media Institute of SA and the Universal Service and Access Agency of SA.
