Randburg suburb Blairgowrie is ready to deploy a fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network after reaching Vumatel's required level of registration to start deployment.

Last month, Vumatel announced Blairgowrie would be one of four Johannesburg suburbs, namely Victory Park, Linden and Bryanston South, to join its network expansion plans. At the time, the telecoms start-up said installation would start towards the end of the year.

ITWeb has learnt Blairgowrie has officially reached Vumatel's required level of registration to begin suburban fibre deployment.

Vumatel's FTTH network is already available in Parkhurst, Greenside and Parktown North. Other areas also in line to receive the FTTH network include Killarney, Riviera, Saxonwold and Parkwood.

In September, Vumatel said it had identified 42 suburbs in Johannesburg and Cape Town where similar FTTH projects would be undertaken. The company wants to roll out fibre to 200 000 houses over the next three to four years.
