Vumatel's Giorgio Iovino says Bryanston South will be the next suburb to receive an FTTH network.

Residents in Blairgowrie can expect to connect to Vumatel's fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) network as early as November.

This is according to Giorgio Iovino, sales and marketing director at Vumatel, who says the company expects 3 000 to 4 000 households in the Randburg suburb to connect to the network.

Telecoms start-up Vumatel's FTTH network is based on an open access system.

On Thursday, Vumatel's Web site confirmed Blairgowrie officially reached Vumatel's required level of registration to begin suburban fibre deployment.

"The FTTH network will be live in Blairgowrie in November," Iovino says. He notes Blairgowrie is the first suburb to meet the required level of registration for fibre deployment.

"The rollout of fibre in that area is one of our biggest projects, as many households have shown interest in the network," he says.

Last month, Vumatel announced Blairgowrie is one of four Johannesburg suburbs, including Victory Park, Linden and Bryanston South, to join its network expansion plans.

Vumatel's FTTH network has already been activated in Parkhurst, Greenside and Parktown North. Meanwhile, suburbs like Killarney, Riviera, Saxonwold and Parkwood are in line to also receive FTTH.

"We will be rolling out our services quite aggressively in the coming months. Some 40 suburbs are in a race to become fibrehoods. Bryanston South is next as well as a few more other ones."

Vumatel wants to deploy FTTH to 200 000 houses over the next three to four years.
