Telkom says at the right price, it would "certainly consider" buying Cell C.

The telco was responding to ITWeb inquiries after Reuters reported Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko had shown interest in acquiring a controlling stake in Cell C, should it become available.

According to Reuters, a 75% stake in Cell C is up for grabs after Saudi Arabia's Oger Telecom appointed Goldman Sachs to evaluate bids for its holding.

"It is known in the market that Cell C is looking for a buyer and, at the right price, Telkom would certainly consider it," says Jacqui 'O Sullivan, Telkom's managing executive for group communication.

"This is no different to what our CEO said a few months ago and at results."

'O Sullivan says the company's growth strategy continues to involve both organic and inorganic growth. "However, our focus remains the successful execution of our turnaround strategy and delivering value to our shareholders."

Cell C said it could not respond at this time to speculation of a deal with Telkom.
