US-based networking solutions vendor Aruba Networks is looking to increase its footprint in the Southern African region.

This comes after the company entered into a strategic distribution agreement with value-added global distributor, WestconGroup.

Under the agreement, WestconGroup's solution providers will have access to the full suite of Aruba's wireless solutions for converged voice, video and data applications.

In an interview with ITWeb following the announcement of the deal, Andrew Potgieter, business unit director at WestconGroup Security Solutions in Southern Africa, said he believes the partnership with Aruba Networks in the Southern African market will help increase the reach into invested managed partners.

"This forms a large component of the value-added distribution model offered by WestconGroup. Through the partnership, we will also be able to offer greater availability of stock from our global resources, which we believe will aid in shortening project times for Aruba Networks locally."

According to Potgieter, mobility is a huge hot button for local companies and is fast moving its way up the corporate agenda. "That said, there are most certainly challenges to its pervasive use, such as security, in some instances cost and then the dearth of IT resources to support it."

By partnering with Aruba, he points out WestconGroup believes it can provide its resellers with quantified mobility-defined network solutions that will not only automate performance optimisation of these networks, but also take much of the guesswork out of securing mobile networks.

"In short, the mobile network solutions provided by Aruba present a huge opportunity for end-user customers who want to be mobile and want to embrace BYOD strategies, but aren't quite sure how to implement the 'last mile' of these in their organisations."

Matthew Barker, regional manager at Aruba Networks, believes that extending the agreement with WestconGroup into the Southern African region is testament to the fact that, as two companies, they share a collective vision for a secure mobile world in which customers can transact and collaborate between geographies and devices.

"Backed by WestconGroup as our value-added distributor, a global relationship and the quality of its solution providers, we believe that we will be able to unpack a new set of opportunities around Aruba's secure mobility and high-performance wireless LAN solutions for partners in the region."
