VMware has appointed Jean-Pierre Brulard as senior vice-president and general manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Brulard replaces Maurizio Carli, who is now GM of VMware's Americas region.

According to VMware, Brulard will drive strategy alignment and long-term planning, while continuing to drive growth and profitability across VMware's businesses including software-defined data centre, business mobility and cloud services.

Brulard says in his new position he will be responsible for managing business operations and developing go-to-market strategies for the EMEA region.

Both his immediate and long-term goals will be to evolve the go-to-market strategy in EMEA to better serve VMware's customers on their journey to the mobile cloud era.

From a short-term perspective, it's about helping those organisations that have to adapt, right now, to the rapidly changing business landscape we operate in, says Brulard.

Businesses are starting to understand the cost savings, flexibility, agility and the mobile advantage this presents to them as they forge their path to the cloud, he adds.

"It's my role to ensure VMware helps companies throughout EMEA to manage this transition in the right way: helping them innovate faster, while fully engaging customers and empowering employees - all while protecting their data, their brands, and their reputation."

His longer-term goal is to better help EMEA organisations manage the people, process, knowledge and skills changes required to fully embrace the new technologies they're faced with in the future, notes Brulard.

Looking further into the future, Brulard believes the focus on the mobile cloud will continue. However, he points out what will change is the need to include customers even more in the design of VMware products, and to focus more on end-users.

Brulard was previously the VP for VMware's Southern EMEA region, responsible for driving business growth and expansion across VMware's business in France, Italy, Spain, Turkey, South Africa and the Middle East. He has also worked at IBM, Sun Microsystems and Unisys.

He was also a member of the Business Objects Worldwide Executive Committee where he oversaw the acquisition of the company by SAP in Europe.

He holds a master's degree in business studies from the Sup de Co Le Havre.
