Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko's plans for a 1 September BCX integration seem to be on track.

The merger of IT services company Business Connexion (BCX) into Telkom is on track, with physical integration of some departments already happening.

After over two years of waiting for approval, BCX was officially bought out by Telkom last month.

Jacqui O'Sullivan, Telkom's managing executive for group communication, says Telkom's Data Centre Operations' (Cybernest) facilities and personnel are in the process of being incorporated into the BCX fold.

"The process of physical integration of Cybernest's personnel into BCX has already started. Cybernest staff will initially work in a transition phase for BCX and later be transferred to BCX's books."

Former Cybernest employees will now form part of the BCX staff complement.

The Competition Tribunal officially approved the R2.67 billion deal on 4 August and the companies have been planning their business integration since.

O'Sullivan says employees of both companies have been communicated with on the processes which will be followed to ensure a smooth integration. Staff have also been informed about the various platforms that are available to assist them in answering any questions or uncertainties they may have in terms of the merge.

"Both CEOs, Sipho Maseko and Isaac Mophatlane, addressed BCX staff around the country last week in a live town hall meeting which was also broadcast to other provinces. A question and answer session allowed staff to pose their questions to the CEOs, and BCX has made an e-mail address available to further assist staff."

O'Sullivan says no retrenchments are expected from either business.

"BCX will continue with business as usual with the added capacity of personnel and the facilities from Cybernest," according to O'Sullivan.
