IT industry veteran and tech visionary Otto Berkes, who co-founded Xbox and led HBO's video streaming efforts, will travel to SA to participate in the upcoming CA IT Management Symposium in his new role as CA Technologies' CTO.
Berkes joined CA in June this year to help accelerate the company's offerings that enable the software transformation of business. He previously served as CTO at HBO where was responsible for the development of HBO GO, as well as all of the company's technology efforts including media production; and was one of the four original founders of Xbox. He also holds seven patents spanning design, user interaction and core computing.
Berkes believes that what was once seen as consumer-facing technology is now what will drive business forward. He notes the digital economy traces its roots back to the mainframe, "in the new application economy, we will continue to see innovation on the mainframe along with much more - scalable cloud computing and storage, analytics, advanced security and identity management, continuous deployment, and mobile access," he says.
"All of that will be bound together by a singular focus on the consumer. The overarching goal of the application economy is to put the user at the centre: to hide complexity without dumbing down functionality, to provide robust and worry-free security, to understand user behaviour and needs while protecting privacy, and to continuously improve the user experience and relevance. Enterprise software provides the necessary foundational tools and technologies that enable the emerging application economy."
Berkes will be among a number of top international and local IT experts addressing the key issues facing businesses in the application economy at the CA IT Management Symposium 2016. The symposium will be held at Vodacom World on 25 February 2016. For more information and to register for this event, click here.
