Sony Mobile South Africa has confirmed the new Xperia Z5 range will be launched locally before the end of the year.

The range is made up of the Xperia Z5, Z5 Compact and Z5 Premium. Sony claims the premium model is the first smartphone in the world to shoot and display video in 4K resolution.

The Xperia Z5 and Premium have a 5.2-inch display with a metal frame and frosted glass back; both are waterproof. The smartphones come in white, graphite black, gold or green. The phones feature an integrated fingerprint sensor at the side power button for intuitive unlock.

The Xperia Compact has a 4.6-inch display and is available in yellow and coral, or white and graphite black.

In the US, the Compact starts at $840. Local prices have not yet been revealed.
