Facebook holds the top two places of the most downloaded iOS apps with its main Facebook app and its separate Messenger app.
This is according to a report released by App Annie, a mobile app intelligence platform.
"I'm happy to report that Messenger is now the second most popular iOS app of all time, right behind... Facebook. This comes on the heels of us joining the exclusive 1+ billion Android downloads club," David Marcus, VP of messaging products, wrote on his Facebook page yesterday.
Messenger has been available as a standalone app since late 2011. Last year, Facebook announced it will force mobile users to download the separate app and not allow them to chat through the main Facebook app any more.
Facebook's Instagram and WhatsApp also feature in the top 10. In the top 10 apps downloaded, Facebook, Apple and Google dominate the rankings with eight out of 10 apps belonging to the Internet giants.
Twitter and Skype are the only apps from other companies.
The report states most of the apps are around four years old and attract millions of downloads per month.
