Charges against Telkom CEO Sipho Maseko, for driving a car with falsified number plates, have been dropped by the state after he appeared in the Wynberg, Johannesburg court today.

"Maseko welcomes the decision. The resolution of this matter now allows him to put the issue behind him," Telkom spokesperson, Jacqui O'Sullivan said.

The Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) in July last year opened investigations against Maseko following an allegation that he had been driving around with someone else's licence plates. He had allegedly collected around R30 000 in traffic fines using these number plates.

Telkom said at the time the allegations were a personal matter involving Maseko, and were "in no way related to Telkom". As such, the company said, the CEO would deal with them in his personal capacity.
