EMC has appointed ex-Gijima CEO Jonas Bogoshi as country manager for Southern Africa.

He replaces Servaas Venter, who held the position from 1 December 2012. Bogoshi left Gijima in 2012 after the then JSE-listed company faced a challenging year, having lost half of an Absa contract, and a large portion of a State IT Agency deal.

After Gijima, he was appointed as vice-president of sales at T-Systems in SA in November 2013.

EMC believes Bogoshi stands out in the South African IT landscape for his IT expertise, in-depth experience and skill. While his 22 years' experience in the ICT industry have given Bogoshi a deep understanding of this market sector, he is first and foremost a leader of people, the storage solutions vendor says.

"I truly believe that, presented with an inspiring vision, a compelling purpose, corporate values aligned with their core values, and an enabling environment, people will always perform beyond the call of duty," Bogoshi says of his career achievements and plans for the future.

Bogoshi has held executive roles in both private and public sector organisations, and his leadership experience spans South African enterprises as well as multinational companies, says EMC.

This experience encompasses a service provider, a customer in the ICT industry, a local and multinational systems integrator, and original equipment manufacturers.

"Having been on both sides of the industry, I appreciate the IT challenges companies are facing," Bogoshi says. "Digital transformation represents the single biggest challenge facing organisations today. The world over, organisations are investing in technologies, systems, processes and new business models to enable them to compete better and innovate more quickly."

Commenting on some of his strategic objectives as country manager of EMC Southern Africa, Bogoshi says: "One of our focus areas will be to position and demonstrate EMC as a catalyst for digital transformation. This journey for customers will require a strong ecosystem between us and our partners to make it real. Furthermore, I believe that as a global corporation, EMC's impact on South Africa should go beyond just commerce but also to assist in the creation of a sustainable economy and an inclusive society."

Bogoshi holds a BSc in Computer Science from the University of Cape Town.
