Facebook now allows users to doodle on their photographs before uploading them to the site.

Facebook users are now able to doodle all over their photographs before uploading them to the social network.

The Doodle feature was originally only available within Facebook's Messenger app. It is now available on the iOS and Android main Facebook app.

To use the feature, users need to click the camera icon when updating their status. An edit option will appear on the photo. Users click on this and are taken to a screen with a variety of photo-editing options. Once clicking Doodle, users can use their fingers or stylus to draw on the photo.

Doodle joins other photo-editing features within the main app, such as filters, adding text and cropping.

According to the South African Social Media Landscape 2016 study, by World Wide Worx and Fuseware, 13 million South Africans are now on Facebook.

Facebook understands the importance of creating unique images. Facebook-owned Instagram recently announced it had over 400 million global users, who share over 80 million photos on the network per day.

"The big trend last year was the impact of all visual networks," says Arthur Goldstuck, MD of World Wide Worx.

The Doodle feature is not unique to Facebook, and has been available on Snapchat for some time.
