MTN Business is set to shake up the traditional ICT market as it moves to become an end-to-end ICT service provider, says Alpheus Mangale, Chief Enterprise Officer for MTN Business SA.

Speaking in Johannesburg at the launch of the MTN Business new cloud platform powered by Microsoft Azure and underpinned by MTN's pan-African network, Mangale said the new platform was just the latest in a series of strategic moves designed to position MTN Business as the ICT partner of choice.

"As an organisation, we are at a sweet spot right now. We're a company that has driven the mobile revolution across the continent. And today, we are positioned to become the leader in the ICT space," he said. "If you are a new player in a space dominated by traditional players, you can afford to disrupt the market. You can afford to come into the market and offer solutions completely different to what the traditional players in that space offer. And that's exactly what MTN Business will do over a period of time. We can afford to disrupt the market to the benefit of our clients."

Mangale highlighted recent strategic moves designed to underpin MTN's cloud platform and enhance the portfolio of services the company can offer.

"Over the past 12 months, MTN has made significant investments across the African continent in our data centre infrastructures. You may talk about cloud all you want, but if you don't have the data centre infrastructure to actually run the cloud, you won't be able to get off the ground. So MTN had the foresight - we saw that the future for enterprise is going to be in the cloud. And we have invested in a data centre footprint across Africa. Today, we pride ourselves on 47 data centres across Africa, a footprint no other companies in the industry have."

In addition, the company has invested heavily in its global MPLS infrastructure across the continent, introduced MTN SIP trunk, which now has some of the world's best brands running on the service, and has forged strategic partnerships with leaders in their fields.

"Partnerships are really what are going to propel us into the ICT space," Mangale said. "With leading brands such as Samsung, we have launched Enterprise Mobility Management platforms. We also worked with leading brands to launch the MTN IOT platform - the first M2M platform developed by Africans for the African market that really switched on the Internet of things for Africa. Our partnership with Microsoft in the cloud space is a partnership set to deliver cloud leadership to our clients, employees and society as a whole."

Mangale said: "The new ICT solutions MTN is launching in the market show we will continue to innovate, and we will continue to come up with new solutions in this space and we will continue to disrupt this market for the benefit of our clients."
