Fujitsu is widening access to quick and painless implementation of validated virtualised server and desktop infrastructures, with the popular Fujitsu Integrated System PRIMEFLEX vShape1.

New extensions to the well-established PRIMEFLEX vShape reference architecture include VMware vSphere 6.0 Virtualization Software, and a new backup concept based on the Fujitsu Storage ETERNUS CS200c S2 Integrated Backup Appliance.

For customers interested in desktop virtualisation, PRIMEFLEX vShape now offers free choice between two certified options: VMware Horizon and Citrix XenDesktop Desktop Virtualization Software. For bigger implementations of server virtualisation for large enterprises, IT services or cloud providers, a new version is now available that can scale to 2 400 virtual machines (VMs).

PRIMEFLEX vShape enables the consolidation of IT, which means businesses need less hardware and can make more efficient use of existing assets, reducing operational costs and efforts. To achieve this, the virtualisation reference architecture offers a simple concept with highly scalable industry-standard components, including storage, networking and virtualisation software, all running on Fujitsu's PRIMERGY servers. PRIMEFLEX vShape also provides the perfect foundation for private cloud. For reliability, peace of mind and to eliminate unnecessary risk, all these components are harmonised and validated as a single solution.

The newly validated backup concept for vShape is based on the Fujitsu Storage ETERNUS CS200c S2 Integrated Backup Appliance, which combines right-sized hardware, backup software and licences into a complete backup solution, enabling a fast and trouble-free set-up of a comprehensive backup environment. While other vendors offer software separately, and require additional hardware and software for scenarios such as long-term data retention, all the required components are included in the ETERNUS CS200c purchase price. Deduplication technology and flexible licensing options also help meet customers' varying needs.

Bernhard Brandwitte, Vice-President, Global Storage Business at Fujitsu, says: "Effective organisations take a holistic approach to virtualisation and cloud. When it comes to implementing virtual environments, the three key factors are performance, data availability and security. PRIMEFLEX vShape provides solutions for workload scaling from 25VMs up to 2 400VMs, with different options for server and desktop virtualisation. Fujitsu's approach to delivering a business-centric infrastructure gives customers flexibility to best meet their unique business requirements. For example, our solutions have enabled several customers to realise objectives such as increasing system performance by 80%, achieving zero downtime, or lowering operating costs by 40%."

Customer feedback for PRIMEFLEX vShape highlights how a cost-effective, simple-to-deploy and easy-to-manage IT architecture removes the headaches of self-configuration, with design, integration and testing already undertaken and validated by Fujitsu. Today larger businesses are also under pressure to 'do more with less'. So Fujitsu has now validated PRIMEFLEX vShape for large enterprises, enabling them also to benefit from this turnkey solution.

With hundreds of implementations around the world, many completed via Fujitsu's SELECT Expert reseller partners, organisations of all sizes are finding vShape to be an effective way of addressing future data growth and capacity requirements without limiting performance or functionality. Customers benefit from a simple and fast process combined with easy, risk-free handling - allowing them to spend less time on IT maintenance and administration, and more time focusing on their core business.

Customer praise for PRIMEFLEX vShape

"PRIMEFLEX vShape makes us more profitable as a company and we can pour that extra money back into the business to help us grow and develop future services. We also now have a single pane of glass through which we can manage the entire system. If there is a problem, there is only one number we need to call. That's given us 20% more time in the IT department because we no longer spend our days firefighting. And that time can be invested in the business in a more proactive, strategic fashion," says Dave Ruddle, Product Development Manager, Data Continuity Group (UK).

"Caplaser has been offering hosting services since the early 2000s. With Fujitsu, we have been able to professionalise our offers: we were able to size and calculate our architecture together. Our offer is based on the observation that companies have to repeatedly invest in increasingly costly information systems. Investing in the Fujitsu PRIMEFLEX vShape solution has allowed us to easily implement a virtualisation infrastructure and provide our clients with only the resources they need, configure their information systems and only be billed for what they actually use. Thanks to this solution, we can offer a truly local service," according to Caplaser (France).

"I have a single pane of glass through which I can manage every aspect of the infrastructure and easily provision new resources. This central management console frees up my time to focus on more strategic business objectives. Even if we double in size over the next five years, this solution will still be able to deliver. That makes it a great investment. It's a robust, reliable, flexible and cost-effective solution that has transformed how we do business," says Umesh Chohan, IT Manager, Simmons Gainsford (UK).

"Fujitsu's PRIMEFLEX vShape has given us a new level of confidence in our organisation. It has allowed us to streamline what was a complex IT landscape and transform it into a hardware profile that can be used for many years to come. I can double my capacity overnight if necessary, giving our organisation the ability to grow without spending more on IT. I can also deploy new applications and services instantly and without affecting the existing ecosystem. And in the event of failure, the system can be rebuilt in a matter of hours, while the resilient architecture takes over operation," says Peter Bradbury, Director of Finance, Ashgate Hospicecare (UK).

"Fujitsu's PRIMEFLEX vShape is an all-inclusive package with no hidden extras that is easy to deploy and support, and by far the most reliable and dependable part of our infrastructure. It runs like clockwork, and if we need to add more power under the hood, it is a simple task. If you look at our systems as a pyramid, PRIMEFLEX vShape is the bottom layer, underpinning everything, so it is vital it works 24/7," says Jonathan Challis, National Systems Administrator, Reserve Forces' & Cadets' Associations (UK).
