Director-general Rosey Sekese has been on precautionary suspension since August.

In a bold disciplinary move, Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS) minister Siyabonga Cwele has decided to charge director-general Rosey Sekese.

In a brief statement, the DTPS announced the suspended DG was served with charges and the disciplinary process started on Tuesday, 3 November.

The DTPS statement does not reveal Sekese's charges, only stating: "The department will advise the public once these processes have been concluded by the chairperson of the inquiry."

The action against Sekese follows the minister's decision in August to place her on precautionary suspension for a period of 60 days.

According to a statement from the DTPS, Cwele decided to suspend Sekese while the Public Service Commission (PSC) conducts an independent investigation in the dysfunction of the department.

The PSC was investigating the ongoing leadership challenges within the department and how they are impacting employees' ability to execute functions timeously.

In terms of the PSC's investigation, the role played by Sekese in the dysfunction of the department would also be probed.
