Companies are increasingly moving to flash-based technologies to create faster, more responsive IT environments, says Hitachi.

Hitachi Data Systems (HDS) has introduced a new flash portfolio that includes an expanded line-up of all-flash and hybrid flash arrays, performance optimisation software and data analytics capabilities.

This includes the new all-flash Hitachi virtual storage platform F Series, enhanced models of the Hitachi VSP G series offerings, and next-generation Hitachi flash modules with inline data compression.

The Hitachi automation director, for self-service provisioning of flash storage, and Hitachi data centre analytics tools have also been enhanced.

As organisations digitise their businesses, the demand for immediate access to information has soared, forcing IT departments to focus on modernising their core IT infrastructures, says HDS.

As a result, companies large and small are increasingly moving to flash-based technologies to create faster, more responsive IT environments, it adds.

As they begin their journey to an all-flash infrastructure, many struggle to understand how to move to flash without devastating their IT budgets.

IDC says sales of all-flash arrays and hybrid systems totalled $11.3 billion in 2014. The bulk of those sales were hybrid systems at $10 billion, with all-flash arrays coming in at $1.3 billion in revenue, it adds.

The overall adoption of flash storage in organisation is fast, yet there are varying degrees of adoption within individual organisations, explains IDC.

The spectrum of adoption ranges from organisations that use flash selectively for data caching, to organisations that have deployed flash as the first tier within a multi-tiered storage implementation, it adds.

"With the best flash solutions for solving today's IT infrastructure needs and a clear capability to help design flash for use cases of the future, Hitachi is a partner you need on this journey," said Asim Zaheer, chief marketing officer at HDS.
