Huawei has introduced a green energy solution to save costs for African mobile network operators.

Huawei Technologies has introduced a green energy solution, Migrate Towards Simplicity (MTS), to address the energy challenges faced by mobile network operators in Africa.

The MTS solution is a telecom energy solution that covers indoor, outdoor, central office, and hybrid power supply scenarios.

According to the Chinese firm, the Huawei MTS energy solution combines all the mobile site energy equipment, including the power system, cooling system, battery, cabinet, environment monitoring system, and security system.

Using components such as mobile site controllers, sharing embedded power, and a network management system, the MTS solution provides the highest energy-efficient power to ensure maximum overall network energy savings for the mobile operators, says a Huawei statement.

African operators face a big challenge and pressure from energy costs, so there is a greater opportunity to save energy costs for these mobile operators compared to anywhere else in the world, says Dr Fang Liangzhou, VP of Huawei Network Energy Product Line.

"It's important to improve the site reliability and intelligence if mobile network operators are to realise long-term business success," he says.

"We think the future site in Africa will be more intelligent, more reliable, more energy-efficient, more scalable, and easier to be built up, maintained and managed."
