Vodacom's consumer business unit chief officer, Godfrey Motsa, has left the telecoms operator for greener pastures.

Vodacom executive head of corporate affairs, Tshepo Ramodibe, confirmed to ITWeb that Motsa is leaving the company "with immediate effect to pursue other opportunities".

Motsa took over as head of the consumer business unit from Phil Patel in February 2015. He has been with Vodacom since 2005 and has held various senior roles, including managing director of Vodacom Lesotho and Vodacom Congo.

Ramodibe says Motsa's replacement will be announced in due course.

It is unclear where Motsa is headed or how much of his R6.7 million worth of Vodacom shares he will take with him.

In December, ITWeb reported that Vodacom's top executives had been awarded incentive remunerations in the form of company stock worth a total of over R10.5 million, the largest portion of which was dished out to Motsa. However, the forfeitable shares are vested for three years, and are subject to the achievement of performance targets.

At the time, Ramodibe told ITWeb that if an executive leaves the company before the vested period is up, "a calculation would be made up to the time of departure and the balance would be forfeited".

However, when approached for comment today, Ramodibe was unable to confirm how much Motsa would walk away with now, or what would happen to his forfeited shares upon his exit.
