"We've all experienced that anxious feeling when we drop our phone on the floor or in a puddle of water. You never know if you still have a phone after that moment."

These were the words of Grant Pendlebury - Hisense training manager, Western Cape, addressing the media at the unveiling of the Hisense Infinity KO C20 in Fourways, Johannesburg today.

Up until now, he continued, there are very few devices that are smashproof, shockproof, and waterproof with a Gorilla 4 glass all in one.

Already introduced this year in France, Spain, Dubai and Mexico, the Infinity KO C20, a new type of rugged smartphone, is a device that is made for both the outdoors and has the office features which will back the owner in the boardroom too.

During his outdoor presentation, Pendlebury introduces a biker who throws the phone in the air, drops it to the ground and rides over it with the bicycle wheels. Everyone in the audience is shocked as the device remains intact with no scratch on the screen or on the body.

Pendlebury said in the past, if you were looking for a smartphone that would survive the great outdoors, you had to be content with sub-par performance. However, under the bonnet of the Infinity KO lies a fast Qualcomm Snapdragon 415 MSM8929 chipset, running a 1.36GHz octa-core processor.

"The octa-core allows the user to run multi-programs such as e-mail, GPS, camera all at the same time. The device is able to run up to 12 applications at the same time.

"This multitasking feature is further supported by 3GB of RAM," he added.

High speed

According to Hisense the Infinity KO is equipped with dual 4G LTE capable SIM slots. If sharing photos and videos of your latest adventure is a priority, then rapid download speeds from LTE connectivity will be just what the user needs. With two SIM slots to choose from, one can decide which cellular network they want to use to help save on data and call costs.

Craig Mingo, Hisense key account manager - Mobile Devices, says the rugged design of the Infinity KO, which is certified with an IP67 rating, makes it dustproof, encompassing a solid waterproofing seal in between the phone and the back cover.

"It can withstand being submerged underwater at a depth of one metre, for up to 30 minutes.

"Due to shock-absorbing material around the body edges, the 5-inch screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which goes a long way in securing the screen against unplanned drops and damage from sharp objects," he explained.

Appearance

With a 5-inch HD screen, the Infinity KO provides enough screen real-estate to easily read e-mail or ebooks, play games, browse Web pages or watch videos, which is a pleasure to do with the Dolby Sound, says Mingo.

He adds the device's sizeable 3200mAh battery, with quick charge, ensures that a drained phone will be the least of the owner's worries.

Hisense incorporates a 13 megapixel rear camera, which through its Phase Detection autofocus can be on-target in just 0.1 second. The front camera has 5MP and a video with 720p/30fps for full HD video recording, with all clips and images saved on a spacious 32GB worth of storage.

"For the Hisense user, ease of operation remains top of mind, so this Android Lollipop device (5.1) comes with the intuitive Hisense Vision UI, which helps unify the smartphone experience," concludes Mingo.

The Hisense comes at a recommended price of R3 999. It is currently available at The Foschini Group stores, Game, Dion Wired and in future it will be available in most retailers.
