Enhance your online reading experience with Web Note in Microsoft Edge

Johannesburg, 08 Mar 2016

Microsoft's Windows 10 Operating System (OS), currently available through distributor Drive Control Corporation (DCC), has revolutionised the concept of a consistent experience across computers and mobile devices. Microsoft Edge, an innovative new Web browser, is one element of the new and improved OS, offering a more personalised and productive Web experience.

Numerous features help to enhance the Web for users, including the innovative Web Note functionality, which allows you to annotate, highlight and draw on Web pages and then easily share these notes.

"The Internet has become very much an integral part of our everyday lives, and many people now use the Web as their primary source of information for news and current events. In addition, social media has become intrinsic in the way we interact with the world around us," says Michael Watts, Business Unit Manager at DCC.

"Web Note, one of the new features within the new Microsoft Edge browser, takes this experience to a whole new level of interactivity, allowing users to capture and organise their Web information, and personalise and share this content with others. Web Note offers the ability to write or type notes, highlight text, doodle on pages, crop parts of Web pages and share an image of the page with friends, family and colleagues.

Web Note essentially allows users to take a snapshot of a Web page and then mark up the page with both typed notes and digital ink. These Web Notes can then be saved onto your device as well as shared via e-mail or social media platforms. Web Note enables users to have more fun and become more productive, simply by clicking the Web Note button at the top of the Microsoft Edge browser window.

With Web Note, users can annotate articles they find on the Web, by jotting down notes or highlighting important sections without the need to physically print articles and content. The pen, highlighter and type tool can easily be used to perform these tasks, even on devices that do not have a touch screen or pen, simply by using the mouse or touchpad. Typed notes can easily be dragged and dropped across the page to place them optimally and organise content effectively.

Web Notes can be saved to the favourites folder, your OneNote notebook, or the reading list. They can also be shared to a variety of apps. For a cleaner, simplified view of the page without the clutter of banners and adverts, users can enter reading view before making their notes. This is useful for research and study purposes, where the content and not the extraneous detail is what is important.

In addition, Web Note can be used to archive receipts and confirmation pages instead of printing them, simply by taking a snapshot of the page and then saving them or e-mailing them to yourself.

"Web Note is not just about serious applications, though, it can easily be used for fun as well. With digital ink, users can doodle away on pages, and can even choose different colours and pen sizes by clicking on the pen or highlighter again after selecting it. Then, by selecting the clipping tool, the doodled section can be cut and pasted elsewhere or shared directly. The clipping tool automatically copies selected regions to the clipboard, so you can paste clippings anywhere, like in a Word document or PowerPoint presentation. Microsoft even has a digital colouring book that users can play with using Web Note for hours of fun online entertainment," Watts concludes.

Web Note is a standard feature of the new Microsoft Edge Web browser, part of the Windows 10 OS, which is available immediately from DCC. For more information, visit www.drivecon.net.
