Embarcadero Technologies (recently acquired by IDERA), a leading provider of database lifecycle management solutions, today released ER/Studio 2016, a powerful data architecture solution that combines multi-platform data modelling, design and reporting with cross-organisational team collaboration for data architectures and enterprises of all sizes. The award-winning platform also features the first data modelling tool to represent business data objects (BDOs) in data models.
In a recently conducted survey of 400 data stakeholders, Embarcadero found business stakeholders routinely misuse data. Only 13% of respondents said business stakeholders consistently used the right data while only 9% reported they consistently interpreted data correctly. (For more on the survey, its results and demographics, visit here).
With ER/Studio 2016, IT and business stakeholders gain increased visibility into corporate data assets through data model objects such as BDOs, centralised glossaries and terms and model image navigation, thereby improving data quality and consistency for better decision-making across the enterprise. Users can define and view BDOs, assign naming standards to models and sub-models and view interactive model images in ER/Studio Team Server, improving control of complex data environments.
"Companies of all sizes need to collect, manage and maintain large amounts of data in data models and enterprise glossaries - from both big data and relational database sources," said Ron Huizenga, senior product manager, Embarcadero. "ER/Studio 2016 enables data professionals and business stakeholders to share and analyse essential models and metadata in complex relational and big data platforms, helping companies adapt to new technology platforms and collaborate with other stakeholders."
New benefits and features
* Improved organisation of model entities: Data management professionals can easily capture and share models, metadata, data sources and glossaries for improved alignment between business and IT. Data architects can create BDOs to represent master data and transactional concepts with multiple entities and relationships within a BDO. Business stakeholders can participate in the data definition workflow and access information on models and metadata as appropriate. Having visibility of model objects such as BDOs and interactive model images improves their understanding of data architecture.
* Extensive platform support: ER/Studio 2016 features enhanced Teradata capabilities, including support for derived period and temporal options and XML and JSON datatypes. The new release also adds Teradata 15.10 to the list of supported versions as well as native support for Microsoft Azure SQL Database and SQL Server on Azure. Additionally, the Enterprise Team edition now includes import access for many of the leading ETL platforms, including Informatica PowerCenter and Microsoft SSIS, for better visibility of data lineage.
* Better usability: ER/Studio 2016 offers a consolidated database for ER/Studio Team Server and Repository to simplify model storage and deployment, as well as an interactive model image navigator and automated naming standards.
