Women in Durban have an opportunity this weekend to take part in a workshop that will result in a legitimate business by Sunday.

The MakerSpace, in association with the British Council Connect ZA and Derivco, are hosting a Start-up Weekend for Women in Durban this weekend.

'Start-up Weekend for Women' is a global event which brings together hopeful woman entrepreneurs and industry experts.

All Start-up Weekend events follow the same basic model: anyone is welcome to pitch their start-up idea and receive feedback from their peers. Teams organically form around the top ideas (as determined by popular vote) and then they have 54 hours to create a business model, code, design, and test the market.

The weekends culminate with presentations in front of local entrepreneurial leaders, with another opportunity for critical feedback.

There have been over 1 800 held in 120 countries since launch in 2014.

The event this weekend will take place over three days in the MakersCorner at the Decorex exhibition held at the Durban International Conference Centre.

Participants should already possess the necessary design, programming or craft skills but need some help in starting a business.

Business ideas will be researched and tested at Decorex, a d'ecor, design and lifestyle exhibition show.

To take part, women coders, makers and designers are required to apply online. If selected, a commitment fee of R300 will be required, which includes facilitators, venue, Internet connection, food and drinks for the weekend.
