Through its partner ecosystem and commitment to open standards, Cisco is making it easier to harness the intelligence of an organisation's building, the company says.

Siemon, a leading global network infrastructure specialist, has been named an enabler partner in the Cisco Digital Ceiling partner community.

The Cisco digital ceiling framework, which was recently introduced in February at the Cisco Live! Berlin, helps enable the convergence of building systems to increase efficiency, lower costs and create unique user experiences, says Cisco.

The solution is Internet of things (IOT) -based and connects all building services in a single, converged IP network, it adds.

Cisco and its 15 inaugural Digital Ceiling partner companies are accelerating the deployment of a digital ceiling, beginning with indoor lighting powered by Cisco's network infrastructure.

The digital ceiling solution converges multiple building networks - lighting, heating, and cooling, IP video, IOT sensors, and more - through a secure and intelligent network platform, says the Cisco report.

Technology transformation is unleashing disruption in every industry, it adds. Successful organisations are using digitisation - the increasing connectedness of people, places, processes, and things - to create new opportunities, lower operating costs, and increase business agility, says the report.

Aligned with Siemon's converge IT cabling solutions for intelligent buildings, the solution aims to transform buildings to be not only smart, but also connected, highly secure and easy to manage, says Cisco.

Through its partner ecosystem and commitment to open standards, Cisco is making it easier to harness the intelligence of an organisation's building, it adds.

As part of the Digital Ceiling framework, Siemon will be instrumental in supporting a digital ceiling deployment with Smartworld, an Etisalat and Dubai South joint venture company based in Dubai.

The potential of the digital ceiling goes beyond optimising building systems and creates a platform for a new ecosystem of building applications and services, says Abdulqader Obaid Ali, CEO at Smartworld.

It gives new opportunities for transformational applications, analytics and business intelligence, and delivers the essential capabilities needed to make cost savings a reality, he adds.

"Siemon has long been an expert in and advocate for integrated systems over a single unified cabling solution that combines power and control to building devices and lighting to cut cost, save energy and improve overall building control, management and security," says Bob Allan, global business development manager for intelligent buildings and strategic alliances at Siemon.

"Siemon is well positioned to help customers like Smartworld quickly and confidently deploy a Cisco Digital Ceiling smart, connected architecture to capitalise on the IOT revolution."
