The Gauteng Department of Education's (GDE's) registration Web site is finally up and running following intermittent disruptions this morning.

Earlier today, parents were unable to make online admission applications for their children, despite the department's promise that the site would be live at 08:00.

The department had issued a statement that parents would from 08:00 today be able to use the Web site to register their children for 2017 academic school year.

However, another statement from the GDE this morning noted that the start of online admissions on the Web site would be delayed from 08:00 to 10:00 after experiencing issues.

'Due to a technical glitch in the Learner Admissions website, the website will go live at 10h00 and not at 08h00 as previously communicated.

"We sincerely apologise for the delay," said GDE this morning.

The Web site could only be accessed after 14:30pm this afternoon.

To encourage a tech-savvy school registration as well as minimising long queues during the registration period, Gauteng's provincial education department announced the launch of an online learner admissions site.

The department advised all parents whose children will be doing grade one and eight in 2017 to apply online for their school admissions.

The Gauteng Department of Education's online admissions site showed a forbidden access message prior to it being live.
