Enterprise Architecture specialist, Real IRM has introduced a two-day training programme, aimed at certifying individuals in The Open Group IT4IT Reference Architecture standard.

The IT4IT initiative is a new reference architecture for managing IT as a business. It provides prescriptive guidance on how to design, procure and implement the functionality needed to run IT, says The Open Group.

According to Real IRM, the two-day course will firstly run from 30 to 31 May at the Real IRM offices in Midrand, with further courses scheduled for 11 to 12 August and 3 to 4 November.

The programme is aimed at architects and other IT professionals responsible for delivering IT services, business transformation, or instrumenting the IT management landscape, it adds.

Also, it empowers individuals with a basic understanding of the IT value chain and IT4IT Reference Architecture.

The IT4IT Reference Architecture consists of several reference models that can be used to structure or establish an ICT function within an organisation, says Stuart Macgregor, CEO at Real.

"Individuals skilled in IT4IT will form a crucial link, connecting IT with business and guiding their organisation on its journey to digital transformation.

"The rapid growth in new styles of technology - like big data, cloud, and IT consumerisation - requires businesses to better manage the 'business of IT'."

Employing individuals who are IT4IT-certified will assist in mitigating the shortage of IT management skills, the difficulty in validating skills within a fast-developing profession and lost returns on the IT investment or spend, says Macgregor.

Gartner research suggests that many IT functions are struggling to contain IT cost and many companies see base cost (running and maintenance of the estate) going up, leaving less funds available for innovation and the new business applications, he adds.

"The insights that IT4IT promises to deliver will enable opportunities for cost reduction to be identified, freeing up funding for innovation."

IT4IT Reference standard uses a value chain approach to create a model of the functions that IT performs to help organisations identify the activities that contribute to business competitiveness, says Macgregor.

Delegates receive a certification exam voucher and exam preparation as part of the course. On passing the exam, delegates receive an international certification from The Open Group, says Real IRM.
