The major barrier to ITAM practice and growth globally is the limited access to the knowledge, says Xperien's Wale Arewa.

IT asset disposal service provider Xperien has acquired a 49% shareholding in Information Technology Asset Management South Africa (ITAMSA).

Xperien says the newly formed partnership aims to increase the adoption of IT asset management (ITAM) best practice to SA.

According to Gartner, ITAM entails collecting inventory, financial and contractual data to manage the IT asset throughout its life cycle.

Steve Klements, managing partner at ITAMSA, says partnering with Xperien ensures not only value-add in terms of process and lifecycle know-how but also peace of mind where it comes to all aspects of IT asset service delivery.

"The past three years since the inception of ITAMSA has been exciting but also challenging. Over and above the adventure in bringing international IT asset management (ITAM) best practice to SA, it is a satisfying experience to see how it benefits customers.

"However, as ITAMSA established its offering and footprint in the country, we recognised the need to improve its service delivery component," says Klements.

By applying IT asset management best practices, IT can become a competitive differentiator while the risk of unforeseen events with significant financial impact is reduced, says Xperien.

Worldwide IT asset management software revenue grew by 6.3% to reach a total of $1.7 billion in 2014, says IDC.

The increasing need for IT staff to rapidly deliver and account for applications across a plethora of operating software and device types with varying, underlying infrastructure models will continue to fuel growth in this market, it says.

Up to now, the major barrier to ITAM practice and growth globally is the limited access to the knowledge and experience required to mesh IT asset processes with existing business and IT processes, says Xperien CEO Wale Arewa.

Also, with the lack in assessment tools that helps identify next steps to improve asset management objectively, companies are limited to particular vendors' perspectives or the narrow scope of software compliance, he adds.

With Xperien's partnership and investment, ITAMSA will provide training and consulting in three internationally certified courses, namely certified software asset manager, certified hardware asset management professional and certified asset management professional, says Xperien.

Moreover, it can now cross-sell its services to Xperien's existing and potential clientele, says Arewa.

Exposure to market for ITAMSA in SA has been a challenge, says Arewa.

And for this reason, it made sense for the company to team up with a firm (Xperien) that transacts with IT managers on a daily basis, he adds.

"By partnering with ITAMSA, we aim to improve the adoption of ITAM practices through ITAMSA which is turning IT Managers into accredited IT Asset Managers."
