Huawei has committed to providing services to telecoms operators to aid their digital transformation journey.

With the focus on digital transformation of telecom operators' services at the 2016 Huawei Middle East and Africa Services Summit, Huawei reaffirmed its commitment to its service strategy for the African market.

Speaking at a media briefing in Cape Town yesterday, You Jiang Tao, Huawei's VP of Eastern and Southern Africa delivery and service department, said his company's service strategy is aligned with global outcomes.

The focus on services and customer experience by the telcos is all part of digital transformation; however, the telcos need to set a target for digital transformation otherwise they won't know in which direction to go, explained Tao.

"Our company strategy is focused on IT infrastructure and smart devices. We will support the operator's strategy of deploying telecoms infrastructure and minimise the digital gap. That is our service strategy going forward.

"In the future, we would like to be the prime integrator for the telecommunications business," he said.

Tao noted that unlike previous years, operators are not only focusing operations on the network equipment, but are now spotlighting the services operation centres. The focus now is not only on the key performance indicators, but also the perception of the end-user. "This helps companies improve their business and improve the end-user's experience."

Recognising that digital services are gradually changing user behaviour, Huawei's global business adopted a user experience model focused on the real-time, on-demand, all-online, DIY and social (ROADS) experience.

According to Huawei, this strategy requires enterprises to possess agile operational capabilities. Networks and IT infrastructure must become software-defined and cloud-based.

Moving towards a ROADS focus is the only way telecos can compete with the over-the-top players, said Tao.

Only through digital transformation can the operators provide the ROADS experience for their end-users, he stated.
