Cape Town-based start-up SNAPnSAVE has reached 130 000 users in nine months.

SNAPnSAVE is a cash-back app that lets coupon-users skip confusion at the teller, allowing them to claim savings by uploading a till slip after purchase.

The company says since launch in August last year, it has paid over R500 000 back to users. The most successful users have racked up to R2 000 in savings.

To receive savings, users need to purchase featured items from any major retailer and then get cash back by uploading a photo of their till slip within the app.

"Mobile coupons are booming in South Africa," says SNAPnSAVE CEO Mark Bradshaw. "Unlike some of the big loyalty programmes, the benefit with SNAPnSAVE is that shoppers can save no matter where they shop."

How the app works:

1. Users search for deals in the discover section of the SNAPnSAVE app or on the Web site.
2. Once a deal is found, the user needs to book it.
3. The user then has 48 hours to buy the product and upload the till slip to the app.
4. The savings will be processed and placed in the user's e-wallet within a few days.
5. Once savings have built up, the user requests a wiCode that will act as cash when used at a participating retailer.
