Vodacom's chief officer for corporate affairs, Maya Makanjee, is leaving the company at the end of July.

Vodacom CEO Shameel Joosub confirmed Makanjee's exit in a note to staff, saying the company regretted her departure but thanked Makanjee for her contributions.

Makanjee joined Vodacom in June 2012 and Joosub says during her four years with the telecoms operator, she 'professionalised' the corporate affairs function.

"She has been instrumental in driving proactive relations with the media, reshaping our foundation and sustainability strategies to be aligned to our business, and ensuring our internal communication function meets the needs of our employees and our business," Joosub said in the note.

Vodacom has given no indication of what job Makanjee will take up next and says her successor will be announced "in due course".

Before working at Vodacom, Makanjee was CEO of FinMark Trust, and prior to that she worked as corporate affairs director at SABMiller and Nestl'e. She is also a non-executive director for Tiger Brands and the World Wide Fund for Nature.

She holds a Bachelor's degree in dance from the University of Mumbai, a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Natal and a Master's degree in business leadership, graduating cum laude, from the University of South Africa.
