In this edition of the Worldwide Wrap, Webcam security was in the spotlight this week with Mark Zuckerberg appearing to cover his MacBook's camera and microphone.

Webcam security was thrust into the spotlight this week when a photo of Mark Zuckerberg appeared to show the camera and microphone on his MacBook covered with tape.

The photo, which was posted on Facebook to celebrate Instagram hitting 500 million followers, sparked plenty of interest. While some worried about the broader effectiveness of Facebook's security, many see the tape as a shrewd defence against potential hackers.

Google's symptom search feature

Google is going to start showing medical details in search results that are related to illnesses.

Starting with US users in the "coming days", the Silicon Valley company will provide a number of possible "related conditions" when a person searches for symptoms they may be suffering.

Twitter buys AI start-up

Twitter has acquired London artificial intelligence start-up Magic Pony for around $150 million.

The start-up, founded by graduates of Imperial College London, uses machine learning to create high-quality videos from grainy footage, and will likely be integrated into Twitter's live and video services such as Periscope and Vine.

Sweden opens electric highway

Sweden opened a stretch of electric highway, becoming the first country to test electric power for heavy transport.

A 22km stretch of the E16 road - which connects Oslo, Norway, to G"avle, Sweden - is fitted with power lines overhead, developed by Siemens, providing electricity to hybrid trucks. The system works like a tram system.

Trolls are harassing young Muslim women in Kuwait who express pro-LGBT views on Twitter by reporting them to local authorities for blasphemy.

Individuals purporting to be from the Middle East are currently involved in a campaign to seek out and report women holding pro-LGBT rules.

Anger over iPhone 7 socket

More than 300 000 people have signed a petition urging Apple not to ditch the headphone socket from the version of the iPhone due for release this autumn.

Online reports suggest Apple plans to omit the 3.5mm socket to make the iPhone 7 thinner and more waterproof, with more room for the battery.
