There are about 10 500 ZAdotCity domains registered.

The ZA Central Registry (ZACR) is dropping the price of city-specific domain names this week, to try and boost the number of registered ZAdotCity domains.

The domains in question are .capetown (dotCapeTown), .joburg (dotJoburg) and .durban (dotDurban) and wholesale ZAdotCity prices for the domains will be reduced to the same level as co.za domains for a limited time.

"There is huge local and overseas interest in South Africa's three major cities, both from a business and tourism perspective. We expect ZAdotCity registrations to experience continued sustained growth, as well as a significant spike during our winter price freeze sale," according to ZACR CEO Lucky Masilela.

ZACR says about 10 500 ZAdotCity domains have been registered by it and its registrar partners since the first dotCapeTown, dotDurban and dotJoburg domains were made available for public registration in July 2014.

The sale started on 4 July and will end on 8 July. The wholesale prices and terms and conditions for both ICANN registrars and proxy resellers are available here.

ZACR says the three SA city domains appeal to national pride, help boost search engine optimisation rankings and enable both individual and organisational brands to "stand out from the worldwide web clutter".

Anyone with a particular affinity for Johannesburg, Cape Town or Durban can register a ZAdotCities domain with ZACR-accredited registrars.
