The biggest security challenges faced by companies are the restrictions of hardware and quality of the network, says Genetec's Brent Cary.

Unified Internet Protocol (IP) security solutions company, Genetec has appointed Brent Cary as its regional sales manager for Sub-Saharan Africa.

In his new position, Cary says he will be responsible for developing sales strategies that bring the company's unified IP security solutions to the growing African market, recruiting and hiring new sales people, and expanding and supporting the company's network of certified systems integrators and channel partners.

"We recently appointed a distribution partner in SA, IP Video Solutions, together we will have more feet on the ground targeting specific end-users who we feel will benefit from implementing the Genetec platform within their companies," explains Cary.

The biggest challenges faced by companies when it comes to IP security, he adds, are the restrictions of hardware and quality of the network available to us in SA. With the systems also being IP-based, the "security of security" is another major challenge.

"In seeking solutions to such challenges, Genetec offers those extra layers of security on our platform to ensure our sites have the best possible protection for customers. We have features within our software providing additional password protection on all cameras connected to the system as well as multiple layers of encryption ensuring the highest levels of security available," he points out.

According to Genetec, Cary is a security industry professional with over 13 years of experience. He joins the company after holding various senior sales positions at international Fortune 100

companies and small-to-medium enterprises in the video management systems and access control industry within SA.

Cary comes to Genetec from his most recent position as a West Africa consultant for surveillance systems company, Pelco.

He has previously worked as the sales director of distribution company, TecSec and as a regional sales manager for Sub-Saharan Africa at security company Lenel Systems International.

He holds a degree in business science from William Carey University in Mississippi, in the US and a Bachelor of Commerce degree, specialising in marketing, from the University of South Africa.

"It is truly an exciting time to join one of the fastest-moving IP security companies in the industry, and I am eager to apply my credentials and experience to increase Genetec presence and market penetration across the African region. As we continue to innovate and bring open-architecture solutions to the African market, I look forward to growing Genetec into a market leader across the continent," he adds.

Firas Jadalla, regional director for Middle East and Africa, Genetec, believes Cary's knowledge, technical expertise and industry-wide connections make him a great asset to Genetec and its growing community of customers, certified systems integrators and channel partners.

"His thorough understanding of the African security market will help us bring our innovative security solutions to the many growing opportunities in Sub-Saharan Africa," concludes Jadalla.
