Hisense, a world leader of flat-panel televisions, household appliances, and mobile communication devices celebrated Madiba's life by stepping out of the electronics space and into a local children's day care in Ennerdale, Johannesburg.
On 18 July, the nation came together in spirit to honour Mandela, many of whom set out on a good-deeds mission. Among those seeking to deliver acts of kindness was Hisense SA which visited Rising Stars Day Care, a registered NPO child-care facility.
The centre is dedicated to assisting parents who are facing tough circumstances and are unable to send their children to a day care facility. There are about 85 children who are cared for by a family of four. Many of the children at the facility were born into poverty, abandoned by teenage mothers, and placed in care by grandparents who have taken the responsibility to look after them but struggle to pay day care fees.
Linna Ndlovu, founder of Rising Stars, says that she does all that she can for the children, whether their original caregivers can afford it or not. Noting the struggle that Ndlovu faces each day, Hisense donated a 40 inch TV, along with tables and chairs, toys, school bags and other school supplies such as water bottles, rulers, notepads and lunch boxes for the children.
The electronics world leader also spent the afternoon with the children, bringing a tasty assortment of lunch for all to enjoy. Hisense has always adhered to the philosophy of "technology, quality, honesty, and responsibility" - a philosophy that was especially celebrated on Mandela Day.
