Vodacom has been looking and will not stop looking for growth opportunities in Africa.

Vodacom is looking to expand its operations on the African continent, but will be disciplined in its approach, chairperson Peter Moyo told the City Press.

"We have been looking and will not stop looking, but are going to be very responsible," Moyo told the newspaper after the company's annual general meeting in Midrand.

He declined to be more specific about the telco's plans, including which countries it would be targeting for the expansion. Vodacom currently operates in South Africa, Tanzania, Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Lesotho.

"The issue really is that we have been struggling to get available opportunities," Moyo said.

This week Vodacom issued a quarterly trading update for the three months ended 30 June which showed that the group's active customer base had declined by 2.6% to 61.8 million, despite the South African operations adding almost a million subscribers during the quarter, to reach a total of 35.1 million.
