The partnership between Instacom and Working on Fire, one of South Africa's leading expanded public works programmes, has emerged from a need for cost-effective and reliable communication, a need Instacom is able to fill by providing solutions with compatible devices which allows for world-class communication, management and tracking.
Quality communication will empower the Working on Fire team to manage time more accurately and work more efficiently, wherever the team is. Working on Fire manages an Integrated Fire Management Program, which includes fire management planning, detection, prevention, suppression, dispatch and co-ordination, and community fire awareness activities.
Instacom's Push-to-Talk was the ideal service for its needs. After the initial meeting, the first purchase order was received in May 2016, for 300 RG500 Ruggear devices, 300 Push-to-Talk services and 300 Push-to-Locate services. Of those 300 units, 250 were allocated for ground personnel and 50 for aviation. The delivery was made on the 1 June 2016.

Push-to-Talk is a national two-way radio service for businesses that desire stability of mobile phones instead of traditional two-way radio systems. Push-to-Locate is designed to locate and track all mobile staff movements for increased safety and worker efficiency. The RG500 Ruggear device is a smart Android device, perfect for the user who requires easy access to PTT facilities, as the handset has a dedicated PTT button. Some of the other features are that it is waterproof for 30 minutes, up to 2m, impervious to dust and micro-particles. It has drop-protection, withstands 2m drops onto concrete, and is tested against: extreme temperatures, barometric pressure and chemicals.
