LG Electronics released the LG X Cam to the South African market this week. The mid-range smartphone features two back cameras.

The dual camera setup has been popular this year, with two of the high-end smartphone releases featuring them: the Huawei P9 with a colour and monochrome camera, and the LG G5 with a wide angle lens and a regular one.

However, the LG X Cam is one of the first smartphones priced under R6 000 to feature two primary cameras.

There is a regular 13MP camera and a 120-degree wide angle lens 5MP camera on the back of the phone.

Landscape and wildlife photographer Mitchell Krog, who spoke at the launch, says the wider lens takes pictures that are true to how humans view the world around them.

The camera also has a feature that combines the use of both cameras in one photo, called pop-out picture. The camera also allows for longer and wider panoramic photos.

LG says the smartphone is aimed at younger generations.

Other features include a slim design, with a 5.2-inch display and a battery life LG claims will last up to seven hours.

The device will be available from 10 August from Vodacom for a recommended prepaid price of R5 499.
