EMP launches EMProtect to secure cards across Africa and the Middle East

Cairo, Egypt, 21 Mar 2016

Emerging Markets Payments (EMP), a leading payments processing company in Africa and the Middle East, is pleased to launch EMProtect, powered by Tranwall, to all its customers across 45 countries. EMProtect is available for all main card types.

EMProtect empowers cardholders to secure their cards at any time, even when they are travelling, by using their mobile phone via an app (or by SMS or USSD) to switch their cards on or off completely or on or off for specific transactions types, such as internet purchases, in-store purchases or cash withdrawals.

Banks can choose to integrate the functionality into their mobile apps, Internet banking and other self-service channels. Implementation of this service by a bank is simple, and no other changes are needed. EMProtect provides cardholders with a mobile self-service interface, allowing them to manage and secure their cards easily without needing to interact with their bank's service agents, reducing traffic and queues at branches and call centres.

As well as having the ability to block transactions, cardholders can also use EMProtect to set spending limits. EMProtect can also be used as a parental control to disable some transactions, or to regulate cash withdrawal or e-commerce transactions. Employers can use EMProtect on corporate cards issued to their employees to control how they are used.

"I am delighted to introduce EMProtect to our clients, empowering their cardholders to manage their cards themselves, anytime, anywhere, using any channel. EMProtect will enhance the security of cardholders with regard to potential misuse and fraud attempts. This is an important development for Africa, encouraging the use of cards for e-commerce and international travel", said Murat Ozulku, CEO of EMP Africa.
