The app version of online home-cleaning service SweepSouth is live and can be downloaded from the Apple App Store.

SweepSouth's founders told ITWeb the app is currently available on iOS, with plans to make it available on Android in the next few days.

Launched in 2014, SweepSouth enables customers to book domestic workers online. The home-cleaning platform targets young professionals with irregular cleaning requirements, and holidaymakers, graduates and households that do not need a full-time cleaner.

SweepSouth CEO and co-founder Aisha Pandor says although there is a fully responsive Web site that allows customers to use their mobile phones to make bookings, the company wanted to fully make use of mobile as another channel that people can use.

"We are taking what is on the Web and enhancing it in terms of the time factor, convenience, functionality, as well as catering for customer needs and uniqueness of the services they require."

Commenting on the app, SweepSouth co-founder and CTO Alen Ribic says the app was built in-house with the engineering team so that it is not a third-party product but rather a product of SweepSouth to customers.

According to Ribic, the app takes into consideration the native behaviour of a device from scanning a card, viewing the location on the map and being able to go to the customer's location automatically by using the geo-coordinates.

The SweepSouth app features include real-time notifications, next-day bookings, tailored quotes for each clean based on home size and extra tasks required, links bank cards to different locations, as well as reminders about upcoming cleans.

The app aims to shorten the distance between the engagement with the company and the 'sweepstars' for the customer, he states. To move away from using the word 'maid', SweepSouth has adopted the term 'sweepstars' for cleaners on the platform.

"One of the key things for us with the app was to turn the experience of what people are used to on the Web into a simple process. Customers can make a booking for a service within 30 seconds to a minute.

"If a customer makes a booking via the app, it will directly notify the customer that their sweepstar is on the way and it will even let you know when she has completed the job," Ribic adds.

Pandor says the customer app ties up with the app sweepstars are using. "We are trying to make sure that we facilitate really seamless connection between the two sides."

The company will introduce its services in Durban later this year and will look at national expansion next year, says Pandor.

SweepSouth is currently available in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
