MTN appoints chief digital officer

Maxwell Takalani Nonge has been appointed chief digital officer at MTN SA.

MTN has appointed Maxwell Takalani Nonge as the new chief digital officer at MTN SA. Nonge will join MTN on 1 September.

He is currently group chief technology officer at eMedia Investments and was MD of Platco Digital, eTV's sister company, from 2013 to 2016. In total, he has 17 years' experience in the telecommunications and broadcasting space across Southern Africa.

"MTN is delighted to bring on board a candidate of Nonge's calibre," says Mteto Nyati, MTN SA CEO.

Nyati says the company is looking to recruit talent from a broad range of industries.

"As our business moves into adjacent areas such as digital and enterprise, we have to adapt our business model and structures to support these changes...We believe Nonge's vast experience and expertise will augur well for the advancement of MTN's digital strategy."

Nonge says: "I am pleased to be part of a global multinational such as MTN and I am looking forward to learning from the organisation and contributing positively to help the company to achieve its vision of leading the delivery of a bold, new digital world."
